2020 Perspectives on the Tri-Valley: Charting a Path Forward
In the midst of this challenging environment, we’re reaching out to break up the monotony of bad news with some inspiring stories of local businesses and their world-changing technologies. These companies have driven a remarkable regional economy that we believe will prove resilient through these trying times.
Five years ago, when we launched this initiative, we did so with strong evidence that the Tri-Valley was an exceptional place to start and to grow a business. Looking back on the decision today, we’re proud to say that the investment in this research has not only been educational, and a great way to engage with our community, but a profitable one as well.
Last year, Tri-Valley companies, as measured by the Mirador Tri-Valley Index, produced an outstanding return of 33%, venture capital funding was close to $400 million and the Tri-Valley saw the arrival of 1,131 new businesses. Although 2020 is painting quite a different picture, Tri-Valley companies are continuing to outperform the market as a whole.
In 2019, the Mirador Tri-Valley Index returned 33%
With significant concentrations in cloud computing and life sciences, businesses in the Tri-Valley are essential for our future, however it may look. In this year's report we highlight several, ranging from a billion dollar semi-conductor testing company to an optical product that literally helps the blind see. We also showcase a few technologies being developed locally that may prove effective in the battle against Covid-19.
We would like to extend our gratitude to everyone who welcomed us into their offices to interview them and to the employees of these companies who are indeed the asset that makes all of this possible.
While the future is uncertain, the drivers of growth in the Tri-Valley are more relevant than ever. As innovation continues to take place in the Tri-Valley, we promise to share the highlights and do our part to deliver sound investment recommendations along the way.
